Choosing the right kitchen countertop is one of the most important decisions when designing a new kitchen. At Tomas Kitchen Living, we offer six different materials to choose from, each with its unique qualities:
Quartz
Corian
Dekton
Natural Stone
Solid Wood
Stainless Steel
Quartz is a highly practical material for kitchen worktops. It’s a man-made stone that combines natural stone (quartz) with resins and pigments. This makes it stain and heat-resistant, hygienic, and durable, perfect for domestic kitchens. With an extensive range of colours and a timeless appeal, quartz fits both modern and traditional kitchens. One key feature of quartz is its 'full-bodied' nature, which means the edges retain the same pattern as the surface, making it ideal for our SHEER handle-less design.
Corian is another man-made surface, using acrylic resin that can be joined seamlessly. This creates a smooth, continuous finish, making it a very hygienic and practical choice. Its non-porous nature means stains can be removed easily, and with proper installation, it can last a lifetime. At Tomas Kitchen Living, we love Corian, especially in white or off-white, as it offers a modern, cutting-edge aesthetic. However, some prefer more traditional looks, in which case other materials may be more suitable.
Over the years, we’ve found that while many clients adore Corian, others have had mixed experiences. Often, this comes down to installation quality. Rest assured, we work with trusted professionals who ensure your Corian is installed to the highest standard, leaving a flawless finish that’s easy to maintain.
Dekton, produced by Cosentino, is a fantastic option if you’re looking for something more heat and stain-resistant than quartz. While Dekton can be brittle, it’s exceptionally hard and ideal for kitchens where durability is key. However, as many colours aren’t full-bodied, we’ll help you carefully consider edge profiles to ensure the perfect finish for your kitchen.
Natural Stone is another option, particularly if you're looking for unique patterns or a classic kitchen design. While it requires sealing and maintenance, the natural beauty of stone can elevate any kitchen. We recommend viewing slabs in person to find the perfect match for your design.
Solid Wood adds warmth and character to a kitchen, particularly when used on islands. While it’s not suitable for areas around sinks, it’s a popular choice for clients who want a tactile, natural material in their kitchen. Our range of Tomas edge profiles can be applied to wood, creating a stunning finish.
Stainless Steel is the toughest of all options. It’s often chosen for its durability and sleek, industrial look. At Tomas Kitchen Living, we can seamlessly incorporate stainless steel into various sections of your kitchen, whether it’s a worktop or corner unit.
We hope this guide helps you choose the perfect countertop for your kitchen. Feel free to contact Tomas Kitchen Living to arrange a visit to one of our showrooms in Cambridge, St Albans, or London to see these materials up close and explore your options further.
